Fram Oil Filter Wrench Review
This Fram Oil Filter Wrench Review will cover the simple pros and cons of this oil change tool, and I’ll include a simple tip to make using it so much easier.
This oil filter wrench seems straight forward enough from the beginning, and it is very easy to use. Except that it doesn’t work as advertised.
Fram Oil Filter Wrench Use
If you are going to change the oil on your vehicle, then you don’t need an explanation on how to use this tool. But just for the sake of this review, here goes. Pop the wrench off of the packaging by pulling on it. Next, attached it to a 3/4″ ratchet by putting the square ratchet post into the square hole on the wrench. Press it firmly into place. Crawl under (or inside engine compartment) and press the wrench firmly onto the filter. Turn it counter clockwise and take the filter off. Simple! Except you’ll have a problem if you try it just exactly like that.
Fram Oil Filter Wrench Use – The Secret
Because this wrench is powder coated it is very slippery. You’ll need to add something to the inside of it so that it will grip onto the filter and not just slide off like a water drop off of a newly waxed hotrod. I used some sandy mud. Just smear a thin coating inside the wrench and repeat the steps from above. It’ll work perfectly.
- Lightweight
- Strong
- Simple
- Doesn't grip well
- Must use 'grit' to get it to grip
- Slippery
The Fram oil filter wrench would be perfect if it actually would grip the filter instead of slipping off. With the simple addition of some grit on the inside the wrench works great.
