Dollar Shave Club Review – Humble Twin
This Dollar Shave Club Review of the “humble twin” two-blade system will help you decide if Dollar Shave Club is right for you.
Dollar Shave Club Review – Humble Twin
Having previously used Gillette and Harry’s razors, as well as plenty of throw away razors (can you say razor burn?) I feel like I know a good shave when I get one. Let’s see how this razor stacks up against the competition, including its own big brothers (the Dollar Shave Club 4X and The Executive).
Packaging
The Dollar Shave Club products come in very easy to open cardboard boxes or envelopes. So far I have not had any trouble opening things up. Additionally, the cardboard is not shiny or covered in stickers so you should be able to recycle it, maybe even use it in compost.
Use
It was not immediately clear which way to attach the handle to the blade. But since there are only two possibilities it shouldn’t take any more than two tries to get it right. Hint: the orange stuff is the ‘top’ of the whole assembly. The space between each blade is wide enough that you should not have any issues with hair clogging and making for a painful, difficult shave. The head flexes very well, too so you should have an easy time going around the contours of your face.
Handle Size and Grip
The handle size is very nice. It is easy to gently caress it so that the blades glide over your skin like silk on a baby’s bottom. But not to worry about things being slippery because the handle does have a lot of very sticky rubber on it so you shouldn’t have any trouble keeping a good grip on it.
The Shave
Well, it is only two blades. The humble twin is just that, two humble blades going about their business. There is a good reason why this kit comes with five blades per month and the others come with only for blades per month. The amount of work these little guys have to do is double that of the 4X so they’ll clearly become dull more quickly. Swap out your blade every 5 or 6 days instead of 7 and you’ll be just fine. This set does lack a trimmer blade but since the head on the humble twin is so small you’ll be able to get up under your nose without much trouble, if any.
If you want a faster, closer shave then go for the Dollar Shave Club 4x. That is my current go-to razor. (Review coming soon). If you want even more then go for The Executive. (Review coming soon.) With six blades and a trimmer blade, you won’t be able to wait for morning just so you can shave again. It’s like Christmas every day.
Value
For a grand total of $3 a month ($1 for the blades, $2 for shipping), you really can’t complain about this little champ of a razor. You’ll get to shave and change your blades so you always have a fairly sharp razor. I say if you are on a tight budget but still need a smooth face, this is the set for you.
